Interstate Power Systems
Interstate Power Systems is a distributor and service corporation headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Interstate provides parts and services for the trucking industry including Carrier, Reliabilt, Allison Transmission, Mercedes, Freightliner and many others.  Service facilities and warehouses are located throughout the upper Midwest with an equal split between replacement part sales and vehicle servicing.

SMS has been in use since 1994 and has been integrated into existing inventory reporting procedures.   Since SMS accommodates Access, Excel and many other formats, Interstate has created a "shell" around SMS that creates a wide variety of screens and reports.  SMS is the "engine" that drives this entire process.

Interstate experiences "lumpy" demand for their replacement parts business - something SMS is made for.  Like other distributors, over ordering was a way of life.  Even though the vast majority of parts are not extremely expensive, the overall cost of inventory investment had gone out of control.  SMS has brought this down over the past few years.

Interstate utilizes the DRP function in SMS to roll-up the requirements from their branch operations.  With SMS they can keep minimal Safety Stock in the branches while optimizing Safety Stock centrally.  Like any other distributor, they can easily transfer stock as needed.  The result has been a steady lowering of inventory investment.

Randy Radloff says "SMS has been in place for many years.  It runs without any problem and is almost transparent.  The accurate calculations are critical and we have come to expect them.   The ease of use and optimized investment are not transparent.  These are great to see!"
